Cost of 2025 Volvo EX30 Is Lower Than XC40 Recharge, Beats Out Tesla Model Y as Well

Table of Contents

Slotted well below the EX90, the EX30 is a premium-oriented small crossover with a rather interesting price tag. $34,950 is the suggested retail price in the United States, making this fellow more affordable than the XC40 Recharge and Model Y.

There is, however, a catch. The EX30 is an idea smaller than its brother, and much smaller than the Model Y. What's more, you aren't getting any federal tax credits either because it's not made in the US of A.

Based on the Sustainable Experience Architecture developed by Chinese automaker Geely rather than Volvo, the newcomer is made in China. Twinned with the smart #3 and Zeekr X crossovers, the EX30 is unmistakably Swedish both inside and out.

From the Thor's Hammer lighting signature to the reassuringly minimalist interior with Android Automotive-powered touchscreen infotainment, it's a thoroughbred Volvo in every respect. One developed at a cost, that is, but still a Volvo.

Excluding the $1,295 destination fee, the EX30 Single Motor Extended Range is also available in Plus and Ultra flavors at $38,900 and $40,600. Customers who can't do without all-wheel drive, fret not because the EX30 Twin Motor Performance can be yours at $44,900 for the Plus trim level. Stepping up to the Ultra means $46,600 at the very least, representing a $6,000 difference over the single-motor version with rear-wheel drive.

Considered a B-segment utility vehicle, this quirky little thing will arrive in dealer lots in the first half of 2024 as a 2025 model. Pre-order holders will be offered the opportunity to configure their EX30s later this fall in a choice of five paint colors.

The list kicks off with Vapour Grey and Onyx Black, followed by Moss Yellow, Cloud Blue, and Crystal White. As for the interior, no fewer than four choices are in the offing for the US market: Breeze, Indigo, Pine, and Mist. All are complemented by optional ambient light themes inspired by – get this – Swedish landscapes.

What comes standard? Google apps and cordless Apple CarPlay, for starters. When it comes to safety, highlights include Door Opening Alert, Blind Spot Information System, Front & Rear Collision Mitigation, and Driver Alert System.

The Plus grade improves on the Core with 19-inch wheels, a dual-tone panoramic roof in Onyx Black, and Harman Kardon Premium Sound. As for the Ultra, you can look forward to the likes of Park Pilot Assist, a 360-degree camera system with 3D view, and Pilot Assist with Land Change Assistance.

What about output numbers and estimated range? 268 horsepower and 253 pound-feet (343 Nm) enable the single-motor EX30 to reach 60 miles per hour (97 kilometers per hour) in 5.1 seconds. The 69-kWh battery offers up to 275 miles (443 kilometers) of EPA-rated driving range in the combined test cycle from 64 kWh of usable capacity. Although punchier (422 hp) and quicker (3.4 seconds), the dual-motor EX30 won't go as far as on a charge (265 miles or 426 kilometers).

Elsewhere in the world, the 2025 Volvo EX30 comes standard with a smaller battery pack (51 kWh with 49 kWh usable capacity) that's EPA-estimated at no more than 200 miles (322 kilometers). Said entry-level battery isn't available in the US market, at least not for the time being.
